A Girl Child’s Plea

If you could hear my silent whimper
A mute but painful cry
Would you still have the heart to kill me?
The heart to let me die?

If you could hear my wordless plight
A raw inaudible sigh
Would you still have the heart to kill me?
The heart to let me die?

If you had known I’d give the world
A world of happiness
Be a symbol of compassion
When hatred descends

If you had known, I’d stand strong be a
Pillar of support
I’d be a source of goodwill, joy,
Empathy and comfort

If you had known I’ve roles to play
Of mothers, daughters, wives
Each bond with tender care I’d hold
Though struggling to survive.

If you could hear this humble plea
Just stand and then ask why
Would you still have the heart to kill me?
The heart to let me die?
